Wreck It Ralph takes place inside the world of arcade video games. As part of the marketing strategy, Disney wanted to target hard core gamers, and the idea was hatched to take on the Holy Grail of video game documentaries, King of Kong. Mockumentary style.
Wreck-It Ralph director Rich Moore and writer Phil Johnson created a hysterical story around Wisconsinite, Garlan Hulse, played by Phil Johnson. Garlan set the world record on Fix-It Felix Jr. in 1982 and moved to Hollywood to chase fame and fortune. His record was shattered two weeks after he got here.
